Skeletons are a common mob in the world of Minecraft.

Spawning[]

Item[]

If natural spawning is disabled, Skeletons can be spawned by players using their fused item, which can be crafted with an Egg, one Bone, and one Arrow. It takes a total of 20 seconds for the fusion part to be fused, at the cost of 20 mana. After which, you'll have your spawn item to spawn a Skeleton, which will spawn with a Leather Cap for protection as well as the cape that the player has (if they have a cape equipped). The item can also spawn a Skeleton as a baby, and they have a chance of spawning with various additional items, including Wooden/Stone Swords, Armor, Shields, and Tipped Arrows of Poison or Weakness. If the item is used in Snowy Plains, Ice Spikes, or Frozen Ocean biome, it has a chance of spawning a Stray instead. If the item is used in the Nether, it has a chance of spawning as a Wither Skeleton.

Natural[]

If natural spawning is enabled, wild Skeletons will spawn in any biome except for Mushroom Islands at a light level of 0, and are also one of the three mob types that can spawn inside of a Dungeon. In the Nether, they have a 20% chance of replacing a Wither Skeleton spawn. Skeletons also have a 1% chance of spawning on the back of a Spider, making them a Spider Jockey. Four Skeletons will also spawn with a Skeleton Horse trap.

Behavior[]

Unlike most mobs, which attack mobs head on, Skeletons tend to try and keep their distance from enemies by backing up as they shoot them with their Arrows. Since Skeletons have unlimited Arrows and their Bows do not have durability, these mobs make great archers, and since their Arrows cannot harm allies or passive and neutral mobs, they can pack a punch when in large numbers and can easily take on powerful mobs like the Elder Guardian, however due to the fact they burn in sunlight, it's best to have them patrol from a shaded area.

Skeletons are undead mobs, meaning they take damage from Healing potions and heal from Harming potions, and are unaffected by Poison or Regeneration, and they also burn in the sunlight unless wearing a helmet. Similar to their Vanilla counterparts, Engender Skeletons have a 11% chance to spawn holding the Bow in their left hand. If an Engender Skeleton kills a Creeper, it will drop a random Music Disc. Engender Skeletons are one of the many mobs that have a female model. If an Engender Skeleton is made into a Hero Skeleton via use of The Star of Valor, it will gain a new ability where the Skeleton will occasionally rapid fire a stream of Arrows that is capable of dealing massive damage and can one shot mobs like the Elder Guardian with a single stream of Arrows.
