Strays are a rare mob in the world of Minecraft.
Spawning[]
Item[]
If natural spawning is disabled, Strays can only be spawned by players using their fused item, which can be crafted with an Egg, a Bone, an Arrow, and a block of Snow. It takes a total of 28 seconds for the fusion part to be fused, at the cost of 80 mana. After which, you'll have your spawn item to spawn a Stray, which has a chance to spawn as a baby, and they have a chance of spawning with various additional items, including Stone Swords, Armor, Shields, and Tipped Arrows of Weakness. A Stray has an 80% chance of spawning if the player uses a Skeleton or Spider Jockey Fusion in a Snowy Plains, Ice Spikes, or Frozen River biome.
Natural[]
If natural spawning is enabled, wild Strays spawn directly under the sky in Snowy Plains, Ice Spikes, or Frozen River biomes, replacing 80% of Skeleton spawns.
Behavior[]
Strays attack in the same way as Skeletons, which they do by backing up as they shoot them with their Arrows, with each hit from the Arrows inflicting Slowness on the opponent for 30 seconds, however if a mob gets too close, the Stray will retaliate with a melee attack, which inflicts Slowness II for ten seconds on Easy, Slowness III for 20 seconds on Normal, and Slowness IV for 40 seconds on Hard. Strays are much better than Skeletons, as they have unlimited Tipped Arrows and their Bows do not have durability, meaning in large groups, they can easily overwhelm even the most powerful mobs, however due to the fact they burn in sunlight, it's best to have them patrol from a shaded area.
Strays are undead mobs, meaning they take damage from Healing potions and heal from Harming potions, and are unaffected by Poison or Regeneration, and they also burn in the sunlight unless wearing a helmet. Similar to their Vanilla counterparts, Engender Strays have a 11% chance to spawn holding the Bow in their left hand. If an Engender Stray kills a Creeper, it will drop a random Music Disc. Engender Strays are one of the many mobs that have a female model. If an Engender Stray is made into a Hero Stray via use of The Star of Valor, it will gain a new ability where the Stray will occasionally rapid fire a stream of Tipped Arrows that is capable of dealing massive damage and can one shot mobs like the Elder Guardian with a single stream of Arrows.
